The Lake City Aquatic Center is looking for at least eleven lifeguards to work for this summer, otherwise the pool will not be able to open for the season. City Administrator Jacob Matthews says he has been seeing this in other communities surrounding Lake City with many summer programs and he does not want this to be the case for the Lake City pool.
Anyone around the Lake City area who is 15 years or older is encouraged to apply. The city will pay for certification training if the individual in not a certified lifeguard yet. Matthews says while looking to fill the positions for the lifeguard openings, the city recently made a hire that puts a lot less strain on the city each upcoming summer.
Matthews says by next city council meeting on April 1, if the minimum number of lifeguards are not hired by then, the city will have to look into alternatives, which can include the potential closing of the pool for the summer.
