Elizabeth “Betty” Riesselman of Halbur

Elizabeth “Betty” Riesselman, age 83, of Halbur, IA, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 22, 2024 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder.  Music for the Mass will be by Julie Sibbel, Mike Bolton, and the St. Augustine Choir.  Lector for the Mass will be Katie Blair.  Gift bearers will be her sisters Pat Gosch and Mary Snyder.  Casket bearers will be Betty’s grandchildren: Heather Hoffman-Richeson, Alison Metzger, Matthew Riesselman, Katie Blair, Michael Riesselman, Sadie Buchta, and Molly Hoffman.  Burial will be in the St. Augustine Parish Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 P.M. Additional visitation will be held at St. Augustine Church from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. on Monday prior to the Mass.

Betty, as she was known to most, was born July 13, 1940 on her family’s farm near Early, IA, in Sac County and she was the daughter of Alfred and Alyce (Henrich) Gosch.  She grew up in the Sac City – Wall Lake area and graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1958.  She attended St. Anthony School of Nursing.  Betty worked as a nurse at St. Anthony Regional Hospital until her children were born.  She was married to Vernon Riesselman on February 20, 1960 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake.  Betty and Vernon owned and operated Halbur Hardware until their retirement in 2009.  She enjoyed golfing, gardening, fashion, friends and family.  She was beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

Betty is survived by her husband Vernon; her three children and their families: Julie Hoffman (Todd) of Dedham, Jeff Riesselman of Glidden, Bill Riesselman (Kim) of Halbur; six grandchildren: Heather Hoffman-Richeson (Justin), Alison Metzger (Marcus), Matthew Riesselman (Alma), Katie Blair (Dan), Michael Riesselman (Kaitlyn), Sadie Buchta (Drew), and Molly Hoffman (Cole); and eight great-grandchildren: Logan, Ryker, Max, Elizabeth, Dawson, Isaac, Kaden, and Audrey.  Betty is also survived by her siblings: Eleanor Olerich of Wall Lake, Richard Gosch (Sandra) of Orman by the Sea, FL, Mary Snyder (Carl) of Breda, John Gosch (Sheila) of Odebolt, IA, Ruth Liekor (Mike) of Hayse, KS, Joan Hernandez (Jose) of Omaha, NE, Jan Mandel (Daryl) of Omaha, NE, Patricia Gosch of Carroll, Mark Gosch of Auburn, IA, and Thresa Hogan of Lubbock, TX; her in-laws: Norma Gosch of Carroll, Joyce Gosch of Colorado, Mary Gosch of Papillion, NE, Andy Riesselman of Carroll, Alice Christenson of Carroll, Linda Riesselman of Omaha, NE, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Alyce and Alfred Gosch; her mother  and mother-in-law Katherina and Henry Riesselman; a son Troy Riesselman in 1995; a daughter-in-law Christine Riesselman in 2022; three brothers: Bob Gosch, Francis Gosch, and Fred Gosch; and in-laws: Francis Olerich, Debbie Gosch, Herb Riesselman (Doloros), Lawrence Riesselman (Ada), Marie Wernimont (Bill), Walt Riesselman (Lucille), Vince Riesselman (Edith), Leonard Riesselman (Donna), Katie Curnyn (Gordon Podey) (Bob Curnyn), Henry Riesselman, Jean Frischmeyer (Leonard), Tom Christenson, and Jo Ann Riesselman.
