Russ Draves of Carroll

Russell Luvern Draves, age 87, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll surrounded by his family.

At Russell’s request, a private family funeral services will be held  at the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden with Rev. Anna Small officiating.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.

Russ was born on June 20, 1936 in Latimer, IA, he was the son of Carl and Ruth (Evans) Draves.  He attended country school and graduated from Webster City High School.  He worked in a welding shop in Webster City and then started a 52 year farming career retiring in 2007.  Russ and Lillian Conner were married on March 18, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden with Rev. Becker officiating.  He enjoyed playing cards, restoring tractors, watching sports, driving his tractors in tractor rides, and raising Limousin Cattle.  Russ was a member of Haggai Masonic Lodge #369 in Glidden where he held all offices including Master. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian church. Russ loved his family dearly and cherished time spent with his grandchildren.

Russ is survived by his children and their families: son Kim Draves (Geri) of Halbur, daughter Becky Dillehay (Scott) of Carroll, and daughter Sandi Pietig (Russ) of Carroll; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister Kathryn Hanson of Ellsworth, IA; a sister-in-law Shirley Clark of Independence, IA; a brother-in-law: Duane “Pee Wee” Conner (Joyce) of Glidden; and several nieces and nephews.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ruth Draves; his mother and father-in-law: Margaret and Carney Conner; two brothers: Curt Draves (Dorothy) and Floyd Draves (Wanda); and in-laws: Betty Thurman, James Conner, Doyle Conner and Floyd Conner, and his wife Lillian in 2021.
