U.S Senator Chuck Grassley Visited With Carroll High School Students This Week

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley made a stop at the Carroll Community School District to talk with high school students about his experiences in government and answer questions from his younger constituents. Grassley addressed the students, saying he believes it’s important that, as a representative of the residents in Iowa, he meets with people of all ages.

Common questions asked to the Senator included why he went into legislation, his experiences, and the work he is personally most proud of. One student addressed the social media platform Tic Tok and how the U.S. was issuing a mandate to the owner, based out of China, to sell the platform or be banned. Grassley confirmed that he supports the legislation, and President Biden signed into law a military aid package to help enforce the law.

With the passing of that legislation a month ago, the developers of Tic Tok pushed to have U.S users call the senators, persuading them to rethink the demand. Grassley said the call volume was too large for the communication system to handle and that the phone lines were shut down.

With the group’s seniors soon to turn 18 or already of age and participate in the voting process this upcoming November, Grassley encouraged all who could practice their right to do so.

After the Q&A session with the students, Grassley conducted a small interview with Carroll Broadcasting to discuss the recent passing of the Prevent Childhood Trafficking Act of 2024 and his introduction to the Destruction Initiative for Stored Precursors Overseas and Safe Enforcement (DISPOSE) Act. More details on those bills will be discussed in an upcoming newscast.
