A project in downtown Carroll to restore the historic Anne-Mar Building on Court Street has been selected to receive over $350,000 in Historic Preservation Tax Credits by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). The renovations currently underway at 502 N. Court St., led by the development group Court Street LLC, began in earnest nearly a year ago when the Carroll City Council approved adding the property to the downtown urban renewal district and offered a 10-year, 100-percent tax abatement on the property’s increased value after the project is completed. Last week, the IEDA announced over $19 million in tax credits to projects throughout the state, with $356,039 going to the former Carroll Medical Center site. Court Street LLC is restoring the building to its original Mediterranean-style architecture and converting the interior into 12 new apartment units. IEDA Director Debi Durham says, “By supporting the restoration and revitalization of historic buildings, we not only preserve the architectural heritage of our communities but also breathe new life into them, creating vibrant spaces for generations to come.” The Historic Preservation Tax Credit program offers a state income tax credit for projects renovating older buildings while preserving their defining historic features. A list of the latest recipients is included below.
