Property Taxes Due This Week, And Many Iowans Paying More Than You Think

As the end of March nears and Carroll County residents prepare to pay their second-half property taxes, Walletbhub reveals the effective real estate tax rates for all 50 states plus the District of Columbia. And though Iowans are proud to enjoy a lower cost of living than many other areas of the country, there were only 13 states that had higher tax rates than Iowa’s 1.48 percent rate. Even factoring in the median home value at that rate, Iowa was still 28th down on the list of the most favorable amount of taxes paid. Iowan’s on average spend $1,916 on property taxes a year, with Alabama residents paying the least at $543 and New Jersey residents shelling out the most green at $7,410. Taxes should be delivered to the Carroll County Treasurer’s Office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31, postmarked that day or paid online. Details on how to request more information, make a payment online or for a link to the full Wallethub listing can be found below.
