The latest Quinnipiac University Poll has US Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont leading with likely Iowa Democratic caucus-goers by one percent over Hillary Clinton, but there is a wide gender gap reported within the Democratic Party. Sanders leads Clinton 49 to 28 percent with men while Clinton leads Sanders 49 to 35 percent among women. Interestingly, Vice President Joe Biden is garnering support before officially announcing a bid gathering an overall 12 percent, with 16 percent support from Democratic men and nine percent from Democratic women. According to Peter Brown, assistant director of the poll, Sanders has become the Eugene McCarthy of 2016. He is the candidate of the Democratic left against his own party’s bosses and their prized candidate, Secretary Hillary Clinton. The poll of 832 likely Iowa Democratic Caucus participants conducted the last week of August and the first week of September also revealed heavy support for the nuclear pact with Iran at 66 percent, with 68 percent believing the agreement will make the world a safer place.
