Semi Driver Seriously Injured In Two-vehicle Accident West Of Manning

A semi tractor-trailer and farm tractor accident on Highway 141 near 370th Street west of Manning seriously injured one drive Friday. At approximately 8:35 a.m., the Iowa State Patrol responded to a report that 43-year-old Christopher Evans of Omaha, Neb. was traveling west on Highway 141 in a 1999 Peterbuilt when he attempted to pass a 2001 Case MX285 tractor pulling a wagon, driven by 63-year-old Ronald Halbur of Manning. Halbur was negotiating a left hand turn onto 370th Street when Evans attempted to pass, causing his semi to enter the south ditch. The trailer struck the bank, flipping the vehicle onto its left side. Evans was transported to Manning Regional Healthcare Center by Crawford County Ambulance and later airlifted to Des Moines. Manning Fire and Rescue, the Iowa Department of Transportation and the DNR assisted at the scene.
