Siemann Believes Younger Voters May Be Responsible For High Turnout

It was a close race in the ward four Carroll City Council election this past Tuesday, with 10-year incumbent, Carolyn Siemann, challenged by city government newcomer, but long-time Carroll native Barb Toohey.  Siemann says she is fortunate.

The unofficial vote count for the entire election was 1,804 and Siemann said she believes the over 500 absentee ballots cast prior to the polls opening was a significant factor in the election.

Siemann is anxious to get back to work and move forward with the many initiatives to which the current council has already committed. She said it is about balancing the needs for a variety of ages with projects such as the Carroll Rec Center and indoor pool updates, the trail system—including the spur up Main Street from the Saulk Rail Trail and a sexton building at the cemetery. She is also excited about working with new initiatives as they arise. Siemann is grateful to the people of ward four for their support during this election and is proud of the work they have done together in the past.

Siemann will be joined on the council at the beginning of 2016 by newly elected members Brandon Vonahmme, who won the at-large seat, and Misty Boes, who defeated incumbent Tom Tait for the ward two seat. Dr. Eric Jensen will make a move around the council table from his current at-large position to the Mayor’s chair in January. These and all other local election results can be found on the Carroll Broadcasting website.
