The Carroll County Board of Supervisors met with County Attorney, John Werden yesterday (Monday) to discuss a misunderstanding that had occurred with a remodeling project in the Carroll County Courthouse. Werden told the board the project idea came about roughly two years ago through the judicial branch because there were a number of days during the week when three judges were holding court. He said there was a need to find more private areas to conduct county business.
Supervisor Chair, Marty Danzer said they had researched the request when it came about and it was an issue in direct need of being resolved.
There was, however a communication breakdown after the project got underway. Supervisor Neil Bock said there is no push back to moving forward with the project, but the bids and estimates should have been presented to the board first for fiscal planning.
Werden apologized, saying the group overseeing the project was remiss in not following through with the established channels before painting and carpet work were contracted in previous storage space on the west side of the upper level in the court house. The board approved Werden’s request to pay for the painting and carpeting from the Collection and Forfeiture fund and the further bids for ongoing renovation will be presented to the board and approved by them before moving forward. Werden said the contractors are backlogged at this time, and the board agreed they should collect bids in the next month so that approval can be made and work scheduled as soon as possible in the next calendar year.
