Three Kuemper students were selected as the top three winners in a recent essay contest sponsored by the Carroll Veterans of Foreign Wars & Ladies Auxiliary. The students participated in the Carroll Iowa Voice of America Essay and Audio Speech Contest where they submitted an audio recording of themselves reading their essay. This year’s theme was “My Vision for America” and 1st place went to Kyle Derner. Jayla Hoffman placed 2nd while Erica Sturm took home 3rd. All are sophomores in Mary Ann Spicer’s speech class at Kuemper and they all will receive a certificate from the VFW and a check. The essay contest is held nationwide with each local VFW post selecting their contest winners, and one of them will eventually be selected to compete at the national level.
