The Audubon County Sheriff’s office reported to a two-vehicle accident at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5th at the intersection of Highway 71 and Highway 44 in Hamlin. Sixty-eight-year-old Diane Kay Sheets of Exira was eastbound on Highway 44 in a 2011 Honda and failed to obey the traffic sign or yield the right of way and continued into the travel portion of Highway 71. She struck the broadside of a 2014 Lincoln driven by 68-year-old Steven Paul Lippold of Avoca, who was traveling north on Highway 71. The Sheets vehicle went into the northeast ditch and the Lippold vehicle came to a rest on the north shoulder of Highway 44. The driver and passengers in the Lippold vehicle, Deborah A. Lippold and Brylee Lippold, were all transported to the Audubon County Memorial Hospital by Audubon and Exira Rescue units. Damage to the Sheet’s vehicle is estimated at $15,000 and Damage to the Lippold vehicle at $12,000. Sheets was cited for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign. The Audubon Police Department assisted at the scene.
