The Refresh Manning Trust Fund announced three winners of their 2016 grant program in a special awards ceremony yesterday (Wednesday). A total of $1,500 was divided between the three Manning organizations and will be available for their use in January. Main Street Manning Board President, Ron Reischl said each one of the awards will benefit the community and has a focus on the children of Manning and the IKM-Manning school district. Though not a pre-determined priority, Reischl added, it is definitely a worthy cause. The Manning Public Library was awarded $585 for phase one of their 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten (B4K) project that encourages early literacy and family connections through reading together and setting and reaching common goals. The overall project cost is $3,025 and the library has a programing budget to maintain the long-term project. The IKM-Manning High School received $650 for the initial phase of a new broadcasting setup as the school works to add and expand current video production capabilities to better serve the schools and communities within the district. The money is earmarked for the purchase of a video camera that can record and stream, with plans to use it for broadcasting and commentating on events for family and friends who live out of town as well as the local public. The final award was given to the Manning Recreational Center. They received $265 towards the purchase of a new diving board. The indoor pool is used year round and due to years of wear and tear, the current diving board is unusable. The goal is to replace the diving board in the spring when the pool is drained and painted. If you are interested in donating to the Refresh Manning Trust Fund, you will receive a 25 percent credit on Iowa taxes and could see up to a 39 percent benefit on federal taxes.
