The Glidden-Ralston Wildcats are currently known as a powerhouse school in 8-man football, and back in the late 1970’s in the days of 11-man football one of the school’s players would go on to make it all the way to the Super Bowl. In 1985 former Wildcat Paul Fairchild would play as an offensive lineman with the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX, and because Fairchild was on the active roster, GR Superintendent and Football Coach Kreg Lensch says, the school has been recognized by the National Football League for their part in “developing and supporting the career” of Fairchild.
Glidden-Ralston joins more than 2,000 high schools from across the country as part of the Super Bowl High School Honor Roll. Each player’s home high school also receives a commemorative Golden Football signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Lensch says the award will join other items dedicated to Fairchild’s career in the school’s trophy case.
As part of the program Glidden-Ralston also received an NFL Character Education Curriculum and is eligible to apply for a grant from the NFL Foundation to help support their football program. Nearly 3,000 players and head coaches will be recognized for their roles in the past 49 Super Bowl events, and the 50th Super Bowl will take place this Sunday when the Denver Broncos take on the Carolina Panthers.
