Carroll & Kuemper performances nominated for Large Group All-State Speech honors

Sixty-nine students from Carroll High School participated in a total of eighteen different group events during Large Group Speech in 2016. Of those groups ten advanced to the state competition with three groups receiving a nomination for All-State Speech honors. Varsity Group Mime members Katie Ryan, Macie Bock, Tyler Loew, Noah Schulte, and Devan Spencer were selected to perform their piece “To Have and to Hold, In Sickness and In Health” in Ames at the Scheman Building at 1:50 pm this Saturday, February 20. They have the potential to bring home the coveted All-State Speech Banner for group mime.

Two other performances were also recognized and include members of the Varsity Ensemble Acting group, “Social Suicide,” featuring Heather Vonnahme, Danie Hinman, Hannah Rowedder, Sydney Macke, Trevor Caltrider, and Tyler Loew. A second Varsity Ensemble Acting group comprised of Sara Sweeny and Bryce Widdel were also selected for their piece “First Impressions.” Speech Coaches Bill Polking, Sonia Walsh, and Carrie Hampton oversee the program at Carroll Community Schools. Kuemper Catholic Schools also received an All-State Nomination in Group Mime for “Please Stay” whose members include: Chloe Grote, Kate Lohff, McKenna Ludwig, Macy Ludwig, Taylor Promes.
