It seemed like nearly all of Carroll was present last night (Monday) at the annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet at the Carrollton. Not only was this an evening to celebrate the many accomplishments of the Chamber over the course of the last year, but it was a chance to put the spotlight outward on the businesses and people that work tirelessly to make Carroll the community it is today. The philanthropy of New Business Award winner, Kevin Reincke of Culver’s was recognized along with the long-term community service that Louis and Bob Greteman began years ago and that their sons, Mike, Jim, David and Matt carry on today at Greteman and Associates who took home the Heritage Award. Marilyn Setzler continues to selflessly serve the Carroll Community and was named the Humanitarian of the Year, and both Sheriff Doug Bass and retired Carroll Police Chief Jeff Cayler received Public Service Awards. But last year’s Citizen of the Year recipients, Paul and Tam Milligan, made the audience work to figure out who the man of the night was in a game show presentation.

Though he did not grow up in Carroll, this man quickly made it home. His first job here was as an insurance agent, but it was serving the community that became his passion as he volunteered calling little league games for the radio station and served as President for the Jaycees, the Family Resource Center, the Carroll Chamber of Commerce and the Carroll Area Development Corporation. He and his wife also co-chaired the Relay for Life and RAGBRAI on its last trip through Carroll. After listing all of this, it was time for the audience to make their guess on who this man is.

Franey was extremely humbled and grateful for the honor and a bit surprised to see some people appear at the back of the room.
