At approximately 3:54 p.m. on Friday, April 8, the Carroll County Sheriff’s office and other emergency crews responded to the report of a three-vehicle accident on Highway 141 at Eagle Ave. east of Manning. Eighteen-year-old Atearend Joaquin Gaskill of Manilla was eastbound on Highway 141 in a 1997 Dodge Intrepid when he struck the rear end of a 2013 Ford F150 driven by 53-year-old Jeanne Ann Gruhn of Manning who had stopped to make a left turn north onto Eagle Ave. The momentum caused the Gruhn truck to cross into the westbound lane of traffic, where it was hit by a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander van being driven by 49-year-old Roger John Paulson of Manilla. Gaskill and Paulson were transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of possible injuries. Gruhn, along with two passengers in the Gaskill vehicle: 16-year-old Chelsea T. Fishback and 16-year-old Alissa Wright, both of Manning, were transported to Manning Regional Healthcare Center. Two passengers in the Gruhn vehicle: eight-year-old Taylor Beckendorf and 6 year-old Kori Beckendorf were transported to Manning Regional Healthcare Center and Kori was then air-lifted to Des Moines for treatment of serious injuries. All three vehicles were totaled in the crash with an estimated $20,000 in damage to the Gruhn vehicle and $2,500 in damages to both the Gaskill and Paulson vehicles. Gaskill was charged with Failure to Maintain Control.  A Go Fund Me account for Kori Beckendorf’s medical expenses has been set up and can be accessed by following this link. A donation account has also been set up at Templeton Savings Bank. Donations can be made at either the Manning or Templeton locations.
