CCSD approves 2015/2016 budget increase after projects push near cap

A public hearing was held during Monday night’s Carroll Community School Board meeting to discuss an amendment to the 2015/2016 fiscal year budget.  Primarily construction projects listed as expenditures under the “Other” category, explained Director of Business Affairs Gary Bengston, are pushing the previously set certified budget near its maximum spending limit of $4.53 million. He says big projects like the Fairview Elementary School addition are wrapping up, but the district will still need to capture all the work that’s finished by June 30th in the current year’s budget.

The increase would raise the year’s spending limit to $5.53 million. Another $150,000 to cover the purchase of new food service equipment was also requested for “Non-instructional Programs”.

The request increases the spending limit from $1.05 million to $1.2 million. The CCSD board unanimously approved the spending increases to both areas with no change to the tax rate. Board President Duane Horsley also noted there is still over $200,000 in rebate returns expected from the LED light fixture conversion project. The rebates are expected in 4-6 weeks as energy officials performed a verification inspection this past week.
