Fiery Crash Kills One Saturday In Sac County

Fire departments from Early, Sac City and Schaller as well as a HazMat team from Ft. Dodge assisted members of the Sac County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol at a fiery crash on Highway 20 early Saturday morning. Officials responded to the scene just north east of Early at approximately 5:15 a.m. to find a westbound semi-tractor trailer had struck the rear of a vehicle that was believed to have been stopped on the travel portion of the roadway. The semi and car traveled through the median, across both eastbound lanes of Highway 20 and came to rest in the south ditch. Both vehicles caught fire and were severely burned. The unidentified driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and identification. The semi driver was uninjured.
