CCSD Students Take Home Top Spot In History Day Competition

Five Carroll Middle School students and three Carroll High students competed in the regional Junior/Senior State History Day on Monday, April 25, at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. Carroll High Seniors: Hunter Schaal; Josh Peter; and Ben Tidgren won best entry in U.S. government in the website category with their project entitled There’s a New Marshall in Town:  Rebuilding a War Torn World. They’ll be heading to Washington D.C. in June to compete on the national level.

Sixth-grade middle school students: Alyssa Brant; Mary Perkins; Brittan Pudenz; Samantha Tidgren; and Alanna Schuur also participated in the group exhibit category. The students were evaluated on historical quality, clarity of presentation and relation to the theme of “Exploration, Encounter and Exchange in History.” The goal of the National History Day program is to empower students with research and critical thinking skills and provide outlets for creative expression that will enhance their academic abilities in all areas of study.
