Following a tour of the current Carroll Football Stadium members of the Carroll Stadium Committee were presented with some “very preliminary plans” during their meeting on Monday night. The rough designs for new stands at the proposed sports complex were drawn up by FRK Architects + Engineers, and Carroll Schools Supervisor of Buildings & Grounds, Jeff Dvorak says, the company was still waiting for some vital information for incorporation into the plans.

Seating capacity is calculated at 1,800 fans on the west side while the east side can hold 1,400; increasing seating by about 100 people. The rough plans also touched upon shower facilities, restroom stalls, team rooms, athletic storage, and the placement of concession stands under the bleachers. As a two hour discussion progressed proposed changes started to morph beyond what was covered in the design. Suggestions included building two concession buildings at the corners of the field instead, questioning the needed seating capacity, and even a perceived cost savings which would knock out the brickwork at the current facility and refurbish the metal stands. As ideas continued to fly, Dvorak voiced his frustration as the designated middle man.

With about $3,600 spent on the preliminary plans out of a $5,000 budget already approved by the school board Carroll City Manager, Gerald Clausen suggested the committee sit down for a working session with the architects.

Following the suggestion members also decided to visit stadium locations in Norwalk and elsewhere in order to get a feel for what they’d really like to see in a stadium. Committee members plan to reconvene later this month in order to brainstorm and also bring a list of questions of what still needs to be answered. Once those decisions are made members agreed the results will most likely be a combination of the original 2012 plan, this plan, and a new plan.
