Carroll High School celebrated their seniors’ achievements during an awards ceremony on Wednesday night. Over sixty students were recognized as scholarship winners with many receiving multiple awards. Seniors Dakota Boyer and Christopher Onken were acknowledged for having perfect attendance during their senior year. The two were recognized by High School Principal Tammie McKenzie, who went on to name forty-nine students who made the honor roll for three or more consecutive semesters saying it was all quite an achievement.
Language Arts Teacher Vicki Gach, who is also “graduating” this year, provided the class of 2016 with wisdom from the ABC’s of Life saying “G” is for grateful, “O” is for opportunities, “P” is for pride and, as curator of the yearbook, it was pretty obvious what “Y” stood for, for Gach.
During the ceremony Football Coach Dennis McCarten surprised Senior Matthew Pauk announcing he had been selected to receive the Ed Thomas Award by members of the Iowa Football Coaches Association for class 3-A football. Pauk will receive the award in July. The Class of 2016 was also treated to something new this year as Chelsea Bissen’s Media Class presented a senior video produced by Tiger Vision. We’ll bring you more with McCarten and Pauk later on Thursday afternoon.
