Carroll County Supervisors Approve One Percent Appropriations

At the outset of the current fiscal year, the Carroll County Board of Supervisors appropriated 99 percent of budgeted dollars to each department, reserving one percent for use on an as-needed basis. During their regular board meeting today (Monday), the supervisors discussed the release of the one percent withheld to some of the departments. Carroll County Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, provided an overview of which departments will be receiving the appropriations.

Virginia Hagemann attended the meeting and questioned why the non-profits were getting the one percent while some of the other departments are not. Supervisors Mark Beardmore and Dean Schettler explained the reasoning.

Other departments that have made a request for the appropriation include: Mental Health Case Management; Rural Services; County Library; Local Option Sales Tax; Attorney Collection; Tax Increment Financing; Conservation Capital and General Support in all departments. For some of these, the appropriations could not be made until exact numbers were reported. Irlbeck said all the other departments looked to be in good shape with their budgets without the one percent. The appropriations resolution was approved with four supervisors in favor and one against.
