Lake View to pave Sunset Drive alleyway following homeowners’ request

For the summer of 2016 the city of Lake View originally planned to do multiple city street improvement projects, but with the bids coming in way too high those plans will have to be rebid out this fall – with the exception of one. In a good example of local government working for its citizens city officials in Lake View are moving forward with plans to pave an alleyway along Sunset Drive. Earlier this year, City Clerk Scott Peterson says, sixteen homeowners approached the city to propose the project.

Those expenses are recoverable by the city through a special assessment which allows the homeowners to pay for the project through taxes. Peterson says their payments are based on the homeowner’s lot size and will vary with some paying as little as $3,000 while others are upwards of $16,000.

With a bid of $188,140, which was below the engineer’s estimate, Spring Lake Construction was awarded the contract. Construction will get underway in the next couple of weeks with a set completion date of September 30, however, the contractor hopes to wrap things up earlier than that. The accepted bid maintains the original assessment numbers which were initially proposed at the beginning of the project.
