The Carroll Library/City Hall Project Consultant Selection Committee met last night (Monday) to discuss four proposals received from architects to conduct needs assessments on the library and city hall spaces. Committee member and Director of Public Works, Randy Krauel described what the committee requested from each of the firms providing proposals.
On Monday, June 13, the City Council will discuss approval of the recommended proposal, which came from the Des Moines offices of OPN Architects.
Once those decisions are made by the council, they will move forward with discussing funding considerations for the project. Krauel said they are anticipating the assessment portion to be completed in 120 days. OPN will be reviewing the space needs studies that have already been conducted for the library and then begin determining the needs required by the city for offices at the Adams Street building. Following that, design work will begin for retrofitting of the buildings. When the city council and the architect firm enter into a formal contract, this ad hoc committee will be disbanded.
