Sunday’s Carroll Merchants game against the Bancroft Bandits recorded outstanding attendance, with approximately 700 to 800 people coming out for the afternoon ballgame. Immediately following that game, nearly 85 children 14 and under took part in the one-and-a-half hour free hitting and fielding clinic hosted by the Merchant players and coaches. The participants were broken out into groups of 15 to 20 players and rotated through four different stations to learn about base running, pitching, fielding and batting before a scrimmage game. There were many parents, friends and family members there taking photos to commemorate the event, and the Merchants baseball team would like to see the photos taken throughout the clinic. Please tag Merchants 7 Baseball in your pictures on Facebook or email them to the Carroll Chamber of Commerce at chamber@carrolliowa.com. In addition, there have been several changes to Corn Belt League start times, including the upcoming July 2 game at home against the Omaha Red Raiders. The first game in the double header will begin at 5 p.m. with the second game at 7 p.m. On Saturday, July 9, the home game against the Omaha Black Sox will begin at 5 p.m. and on Sunday, July 17, the home double header against the Omaha Filth Ballers will start at 2 p.m. with the second game to follow at 5 p.m. The online schedules have been updated to reflect these changes.
