World’s Largest Popcorn Ball To Be Moved To New Home Today

It was just a few weekends ago, on Saturday, June 18, that hundreds of volunteers gathered to once again construct the World’s Largest Popcorn Ball at the Noble Popcorn plant in Sac City. Though the new ball fell short of the 10,000 pound goal, weighing in at 9,370 pounds, it is still well above the previous title holder at 6,500 pounds, built in 2013 at the Indiana State Fair. The sheer size of the popcorn ball required the construction of a new building at the Sac City Museum complex. Today (Friday), the nearly five ton ball of gooey goodness will be moved to its new home on Main Street in Sac City, all in time for the annual Chautauqua Days celebration this weekend. The coordination of moving something so massive yet so delicate takes planning, and at 2 p.m. this afternoon, Steve Engel of Engel Agri Seed, with the help of the Sac County Secondary Roads department if needed, will use huge forklifts with extended forks and pay loaders to pick up and balance the ball, placing it in a specially designed mold created by Lundell Plastics of Odebolt on a pallet designed by Evapco Iowa. Residents and visitors are invited to witness this historic event.
