One driver had to be mechanically extracted from their vehicle and both drivers were injured in an accident that occurred at approximately 11:55 a.m. Sunday, July 10, near the intersection with Timber Ave. and 190th Street north of Glidden. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to find that 35-year-old Thomas Ray Hansen of Lake City had been driving northbound on Timber Ave. in a 2006 Acura Sentra when he crossed the center line. A 2015 Jeep Compass, driven by 25-year-old Abby Barbara Wenck of Lidderdale, was approaching from the north and tried to swerve to avoid the Hansen vehicle. The evasive maneuver did not work and the Wenck vehicle was struck in the left front. The impact caused Wenck’s Jeep to roll onto its left side in the ditch, where she was able to exit the vehicle. The Hansen Sentra remained upright, but he was trapped inside and had to be extricated by the Carroll and Glidden Fire Departments. Both drivers were transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll Emergency Medical Services for treatment of injuries. There was an estimated $15,000 damage to the Hansen vehicle and $10,000 to the Wenck vehicle. Hansen was cited for driving left of center, driving while license is suspended and failure to have accident-related liability insurance.
