Bids received on July 11, for the leachate forcemain and gravity sewer project at the Carroll County landfill, to be shared by the City of Carroll and the Carroll County Solid Waste Commission, came in higher than the engineer’s cost estimate of $560,000. But, Director, Mary Wittry, requested the Carroll City Council approve the lowest bid received.
Wittry said that part of the adjustment for the new dollar amounts came from additional work needed after an assessment of the area was completed.
The bid of $661,257.50, divided per the agreement will have the Carroll County Solid Waste Commission responsible for $325,395 and the City of Carroll will pay $335,962.50. City Manager, Gerald Clausen detailed how the project will be funded.
The Carroll City Council approved the project and the funding, and Wittry said this would now be brought before the Solid Waste Commission for their approval. At 8 a.m. this morning (Tuesday), the commission also approved the project. Wittry said the notice to proceed will go out to King Construction of Wall Lake today and they are hoping to get the project started in the next week to 10 days. The anticipated substantial completion date is Aug. 31 of this year. The City of Carroll’s involvement in the project will allow other current or future tenants in the industrial area to tie into the sewer.
