Steve King visited Carroll Area Nursing Service offices in Carroll yesterday (Thursday), and he also sat down and talked with Carroll Broadcasting about a variety of subjects. He answered to recent criticism he has faced for a photo that showed a Confederate flag with a grouping of other flags on his desk. When asked if that flag was still there, he responded by saying it has been there a long, long time.
He thought it strange that no one mentioned there was a leather-bound, New Testament, shirt-pocket sized Bible sitting on the coffee table. That piece, he said, was carried into the Civil War by one of his great uncles. A student of history, King says he is pro-life, and if born in that time, he would have been an abolitionist and he is definitely anti-slavery.
The fact that this was even brought up is a whole lot of to-do about nothing.
He said this is an American flag, it is a piece of American history, and that history, he added, needs to be remembered accurately. And, that is why the flag remains.
