SSC Happy To See Routine Back-To-School Maintenance This Year

South Central Calhoun Community Schools has had a much lighter load this summer in physical property preparations for the 2016/17 school year, especially as it compared to what had to be done last year after the Mother’s Day tornado heavily damaged the Lake City building. Superintendent Jeff Kruse said they were happy to be back to regular maintenance.

He added there have been some staffing changes, but the majority of those are related to the Teacher Leadership Program that is being implemented this year. Three teachers will be moving into positions as teacher leaders, leaving the high school music and art positions as well as a math position at the middle school to be filled. Kruse explained the $150 million legislative program was introduced about four years ago, to be rolled out in three consecutive years. South Central Calhoun began working on bringing it into their system in that third year.

Registration for all South Central Calhoun students will be all day Thursday, Aug. 11, at the middle school in Rockwell City. Open houses will take place Aug. 24, from 5 to 6:15 p.m. for elementary and middle school students and the first day of school will be Thursday, Aug. 25. Teachers will return for in-services on Monday, Aug. 22.
