Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 240th Street and H Ave. southeast of Scranton at approximately 6:17 p.m. yesterday (Sunday). The Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson Fire Department and several units from Greene County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. Fifty-six-year-old Patrick Lee Rumley of rural Scranton had been westbound on 240th Street in a 2014 Ford F150 that was pulling a small utility trailer when he slowed and signaled to make a left turn onto H Ave. A 2001 Honda Accord, driven by 33-year-old William Anthony Gifford of Scranton was also westbound on 240th Street and attempted to pass several vehicles and struck the Rumley truck on the driver’s side as it made the turn. The Rumley pickup rolled, coming to rest on its side. Gifford’s car landed on its wheels in the southwest ditch. Gifford, Rumley and a passenger in his vehicle were all transported to the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson for observation. Gifford was later air lifted to Des Moines. Charges are pending further investigation.
