Iowa State University (ISU) announced Wednesday the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has awarded more than $3 million in financial aid. For this academic year alone, the school has awarded more than 2,300 scholarships to students. Over the last five years the amount awarded has grown by $1 million. Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Wendy Wintersteen, says, “We’re proud to have reached the $3 million mark in scholarships, made possible by many generous alumni, friends and supporters.” David Acker, associate dean of academic and global programs, adds, “Scholarships help to open the doors for bright, hardworking students who might not otherwise be able to attend college.” These scholarships are awarded at both the college and departmental levels. Students are selected based on scholarship criteria that includes academic achievement, leadership, service and financial need. ISU has awarded scholarships in fields such as the Ag Excellence Awards, the Dean’s Leadership Scholars, growth in leadership, hands-on learning, study-abroad awards and multicultural and geographic awards.
