U.S. Congressional Candidate Kim Weaver Has Interesting Solution To Water Quality Concerns

Iowa’s 4th District Democratic House Congressional Candidate, Kim Weaver, was in Carroll last Friday for a Carroll County Democratic Party Fundraiser, and while she was in town she talked about one of the big issues facing our area, water quality. Weaver was born in Des Moines but now lives in Sheldon, and she says something need to be done about it.

Des Moines Water Works is bringing a federal lawsuit against Sac, Calhoun and Buena Vista counties. The company is claims that it is losing money because of extra filtration needed from the increased nitrate levels in the water from drainage in those counties. Weaver says she sees both sides of this issue and has an interesting solution.

She says this industrial hemp could help keep farmers profitable and deal with the nitrate concerns.

She claims industrial hemp could prove to be a valuable cash crop for Iowa farmers and noted that industrial hemp can be used in a variety of ways, including paper, cloth and biodegradable plastics. Weaver is challenging Republican Congressman Steve King in the upcoming November elections.
