Mahanay 50-Year-Old Vision Nearing Completion With Bell Repairs And Castings

Last Summer, Tim Verdin of The Verdin Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, who specializes in casting and repair of bells, traveled to Jefferson to assess the repairs need at the Mahanay Bell Tower to not only bring back the music from existing bells, but to determine what work needs to be conducted to change it to a full 48-bell carillon. On Wednesday, nine of the existing bells plus the 15 that have been on display in the courthouse were shipped to Ohio for work to begin on the repairs. The remaining bells needed to make up the carillon are also being cast.

Verdin said they are thrilled to be able to help realize the full vision that began with the construction of the tower in Jefferson.

The Verdin Company has estimated the bells will be returning for installation in April of 2017.
