A 59-year tradition will be marching through Carroll on Saturday, Oct. 1 as the city celebrates Band Day. Executive Director of the Carroll Chamber of Commerce, Shannon Landauer, said they are pleased with the number of bands that will be participating in the annual parade.
There are approximately 45 businesses, organizations and causes that have already registered for the 10:30 a.m. start time. This year, Landauer said, there will be a change that attendees need to know before staking out a spot to view the parade.
She added there will be only minor changes in the residential areas to the route that begins at the corner of 9th and Adams Streets, turns east onto 7th Street, north onto Clark then back east on 9th Street to Graham Park. Judging in the sanctioned event for showmanship, marching precision, music presentation and general effect will take place at Graham Park. The bands will then proceed across the street to the Carroll Stadium for field performances. Trophies for winning bands will be awarded in Class 1A, 2A and 3A for both high school and middle school bands. There will be one trophy awarded for the most outstanding performance. For more information or to register an entry into the parade, contact Joe Rossiter, Program Director at the chamber at 792-4383.
