Suspicious Fire Gets Jefferson Man Arrested On Drug Charges

The Jefferson Police and Fire Departments and Greene County Emergency Medical Services responded at 12:48 a.m. yesterday (Thursday) to the report of a residential fire that had originated in the basement at 108 West Wilcox Way. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the resident, 23-year-old Jackson Henry Naylor, who said he had been messing around with a butane torch in his bedroom. He left the room and returned to the smell of smoke. Firefighters on the scene, however, reported to the officer that they had seen drug-related items in the basement. After consent was received from Jackson for a search, the officer located a smoking device containing marijuana. Jackson was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance—marijuana, a serious misdemeanor and possession of drug paraphernalia a simple misdemeanor.
