Fall is the perfect time to plant trees, and the DNR State Forest Nursery is gearing up to help Iowans with fall orders. Bare-root seedlings will be made available for purchase for 50 to 90 cents per seedling, plus shipping and handling. These are available for large-scale plantings and prices are dependent on species and size. For smaller areas, such as acreages and back yards, there is a create-a-packet option made up of 200 seeds from four species at a cost of $190. Songbird packets are also available for $45 each. Seedlings are generally shipped starting the last weekend of October for fall planting.
