Greene County Supervisors Approve $250,000 Property Sale To Greene County Community School District

The Greene County Board of Supervisors approved the sale of the former Jefferson armory property during the board meeting on Monday. The buyer, Greene County Community School District (GCCSD), purchased the plot for $250,000. Greene County originally purchased the property at 1577 235th St. in 2011 for $150,000 from the Greene County Development Corporation to be used as cold storage. County Engineer, Wade Weiss, told supervisors the property was never intended to be a long term acquisition and by selling it to GCCSD, the county could make back their investment. Supervisors approved the quarter-million dollar sale four votes to one. The nay vote comes from Supervisor Mike Burkett who was concerned the timing for the sale was poor due to the decision by the school board to close the Grand Junction school building at the end of the year to save money.
