On Wednesday, Nov. 23, President Barack Obama will pardon two Iowa turkeys for Thanksgiving, and this year, those two turkeys were raised on a farm from the Sac County community of Early. Chris Domino is a fourth-generation farmer, and he, along with his wife Nicole and their four children have spent approximately four months getting the turkeys acclimated to being around people and lots of noise and practicing being at a podium so they will be calm during the pardon. This past Friday, Nov. 18, the Iowa Turkey Federation hosted a send-off for the turkeys as they began their journey to Washington, D.C. The birds will receive their official names during the pardon and will then be moved to their new home at “Gobblers Rest, in Blacksburg, Va.
