EPA Increases Renewable Fuel Volumes For 2017

Today (Wednesday), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized increases to the renewable fuel volume requirements in all categories of biofuels under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program. The across-the-board increases will boost production and provide for achievable growth of biofuels in the transportation sector, according to Janet McCabe, the EPA’s acting assistant administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation. This move, she added, will expand the nation’s renewable fuels sector while decreasing the country’s reliance on imported oil. Increases from 2016 include: an 81 million-gallon increase in cellulosic biofuel; a 100 million gallon increase in biomass-based diesel; 67 million gallons in advanced biofuels; and a 1.17 billion gallon increase in production of renewable fuel.
