Financial Uncertainty Brings About Early Retirement Discussions At Audubon School District

Declining enrollment and a strained financial situation due to the uncertainty of state funding are two of the reasons Superintendent of the Audubon Community School District, Dr. Brett Gibbs, cites for opening early retirement opportunities for staff. The board discussed the option at Monday night’s meeting after hearing Gibbs explain that this would open up some money in the general fund. Previous early retirement offerings required the staff member to have served the district for at least 15 years and be 55 years of age or older. Gibbs told board members he would recommend making early retirement effective on July 1, 2017. The board is expected to develop a package and bring it back for discussion and action at their December meeting.
