Kramer Sentenced After Motion For New Trial Is Once Again Overruled

A sentencing hearing was held in Carroll County District Court yesterday (Monday) for 31-year-old Jeromie Alan Kramer of Westside, who was found guilty of sexual abuse in the third degree and lascivious acts with a child, both class C Felonies, on Oct. 13 of this year. Prior to his sentencing on the charges, Judge Gary McMinimee heard a renewed motion for a new trial, largely based on a letter to the court that had been drafted by the victim in the case. In the letter, the victim said they believed that Kramer had learned from his misdeeds and that she had not intended for charges to be pressed. At the time of the initial filing of the motion for a new trial, Judge McMinimee said, “Whether a victim wishes to press charges or have a criminal act reported is not relevant. It is for the prosecutor, in the exercise of his/her discretion to determine whether charges are brought.” The Judge upheld the original decision and overruled the motion. Kramer was then sentenced to up to 10 years on each count to be served concurrently with credit for time served. Once released, Kramer will remain on parole and registered as a sex offender in the county of his residence for the remainder of his life. He will also not be allowed any contact with the defendant for five years from his sentencing date.
