Sac City’s City Council has taken another step towards approving the proposed housing development on the town’s southern border. A property developer, Brett Harman, approached the city in August to build around 30 new homes. City Administrator, Adam Ledford, says taking the next step was not an easy decision for the council.

This agreement is a crucial initial step for the project. It will lay the groundwork for the city to annex the development, provide an estimated $670,000 dollars in infrastructure support to the area and provide Tax Increment Financing (TIF) for work on the properties. While the vote passed unanimously, the council still has concerns about the project. Ledford says those worries are not unfounded.

It will still be a long time before the development gets a full approval from the city. There are a number of points in the project where the council can stop moving the project forward.

Attorneys for the city will draft a contract to be sent to Harman for review. If both parties agree with the terms, the city will begin preparing the necessary steps for the project to continue.
