Nursing and physician shortages and an aging population, particularly in rural areas, has led to a doubling in healthcare employment opportunities over the past three years. In their continuing efforts to educate area high school students about the variety of health care careers available to them, Manning Regional Healthcare Center (MRCH) will be hosting a career fair on Thursday, Feb. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Chief Human Resources Officer, Shelli Lorenzen says, “Whether students are looking to enter the workforce right out of college or if they want to get an education and specialize in healthcare, we want them to know there are opportunities right here at home waiting for them.” Lorenzen said MRHC also wants to showcase professions that support the medical staff, such as accountants, IT professionals and dietary, admissions and maintenance staff, who are all instrumental in helping the clinics and hospitals operate smoothly. Students and their parents are invited to a progressive dinner on Feb. 9 that will include a tour of the hospital, clinic and recovery center. Representatives from 12 different departments will be on hand to answer questions and talk about their careers. At the conclusion of the fair, students can pick up a West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation scholarship application.
