An Air Force veteran who struggled with homelessness is trying to raise money and awareness for an organization that helped him keep his dog through his toughest times by riding his bicycle in what he calls the Tour de PACLANTIC. Harold Palmquist first made contact with Veterans and Their Pets, based in Phoenix, Ariz., when he had no place to keep his dog, Daisy.

Palmquist says the organization helps care for veteran’s pets when they are unable to do so themselves.

Palmquist is wintering in Glidden and plans to begin his next trip across the country on April 8 in St. Simon’s Island, Ga. Last year, he raised over $3,500 and traveled nearly 5,000 miles, all while pulling 180 pounds of equipment and Daisy with him. All money raised goes to keeping a veteran’s pet safe while they get the care and treatment they deserve.
