The Kuemper Speech department advanced 12 groups to the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) State competition on Saturday, Feb. 4, in Spencer. Of those 12, nine received 1, or excellent, ratings with the other three groups receiving 2 ratings. The next step in the process is for the IHSSA to tabulate ballots from the competition to name those who will be performing in the All State Festival on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Iowa State University in Ames. The nine groups with a 1 rating are all eligible to be nominated for the festival. Kuemper’s speech coaches are Susan Glass, Jake Gute, Lydia Schettler, Barb Toohey and Deb Gute.
