Two Storm Lake individuals have been arrested after attempting to sell a home they did not own or have rights to sell. On Thursday, Jan. 19, the Storm Lake Police Department received a report on possible fraudulent activity after a couple met with 20-year-old Dalton Sassman, of Storm Lake, and paid him $1,800 as a down payment on a property in Truesdale. According to authorities, Sassman was operating under an alias, Dalton Fortymeyer, and had no right to perform the sale. Sassman was arrested and charged with second degree fraudulent practices, second degree theft and conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony, all class D felonies. Friday morning, authorities also arrested 19-year-old Angel Askren, of Schaller, on charges of conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony for her association with the illicit sale. Both were booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and are held on a $5,000 bond. The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted by the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Office during the investigation. Additional arrests are expected.
