Stolen Goods Sold At An Ames Pawn Shop Lead Authorities Back To Jefferson Man

A Jefferson man was arrested at approximately 6:01 p.m. Thursday evening after an investigation into stolen items sold to a pawn shop led back to the suspect. The Jefferson Police Department arrested 35-year-old Derek Eugene Ott and charged him with burglary in the third degree, a class D felony. The charges stem from an investigation that began on Aug. 30, 2016 when a resident in the 500 block of North Maple Street reported theft of power lawn tools. Ott immediately landed on the list of suspects as he was at the residence only a few days prior to the burglary. The investigation led authorities to an Ames pawn shop, where Ott had sold the items.
