Lunch Connection Attendees Learn The Ins And Outs On Antibiotics At SMCH

More than 30 people attended the most recent Lunch Connection at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) in Lake City to learn more about the pros and cons of antibiotic treatments. Dr. Margaret Vitiritto, lab director, Kelly Hays, and pharmacy director, Nicole Kock discussed the differences between bacteria and viruses and how each is treated, how antibiotics are only effective on bacterial illnesses and the rise of antibiotic resistance. The attendees learned the reasons why a physician may elect to not prescribe antibiotics for certain illnesses. The SMCH Lunch Connections are held four times each year. The next session will be held June 1.
